Increased Y.F.C. membership

Eighty new members had joined the Young Farmers’ Club organisation in the Christchurch district in the last year, said Mr P. Barron, of Dunsandel, in his report to the annual meeting of the Christchurch district

In the district the movement now had a membership! of 522, including 326 in 12 country clubs and 196 inthree school clubs. Mr Barron said that some' clubs attributed their sue-; cess or failure to the amal-: gamation of the Young: 'Farmers’ Clubs and Country' Girls’ Clubs in June, 1973. Where clubs had shown a drop in membership, he said, it was usually caused by a generation gap and he warn-, ed delegates against club' cliques. The movement was fortunate to have so many sponsored competitions available to it, but not enough members were taking advantage: of the opportunities, he said. The meeting considered, that the new times for the country session on the radio! were unsuitable and re-

quested that there be a return to the previous times. This request will be referred to the Director-General of Broadcasting, the local radio station and to the national executive of the Young; Farmers’ Club movement. ! Officers were elected as' followsr-Chairman, Mr A. R. .Macdonald (Sheffield club); vice-chairmen. Miss A. L.. Denton (Avon City) and Mr; J. Ryan (Waihora); secre-' tary, Mr N. P. Morris: treasurer, Mrs P. E. Barrett: farm safety officer, Mr N. Kaye (Banks Peninsula); finance committee Miss Denton; and Messrs Macdonald, .Ryan, Barron, P. Jarman

(Darfield), N. Greenwood (Ellesmere) and J. Tait (Ladbrooks).
