Beech plan opposed
Strong opposition to the Government’s proposal to exploit Westland beech forests was expressed at the annual meeting of the Lincoln College Students’ Association yesterday.
The association opposes any scheme involving large kraft mills, and considers the replacement of native forests by pine forests for purely economic motives unacceptable.
All industrial proposals for the beech-forest scheme in- : volve a large degree of Japanese interest, representing a further loss of New Zealand’s natural resources to overseas interests, the association considers.
