Chocolate rabbit thought too dear
What will become of Wilbur Rabbit, a hollow chocolate rabbit, between now and Easter, 1976. The answer will depend on how many people succumbed to taking him home to their children this Easter.
They could have bought him in several stores which stock Easter eggs and Easter bunnies as sweetmeats for children. Wilbur was not very popular with one person. It .was. the price tag attached to! him which made G. L. Ed-I dington complain to “The i Press.”
“I am appalled at the ex-| orbitant prices of Easter eggs,”, he said. “One which caught my eye today was a hollow chocolate rabbit (Wilbur) packed in cellophane inside a carton measuring Bin by 2in by 2in and selling for $1.25.
“I wish to know what control the prices division of the Department of Trade and Industry exercises over such products, and what steps it tas taken or will take to eradicate such blatant profiteering.” An offcier of the department said that there was no control over the price of Easter eggs or Easter bunnies. The manufacturing company had to justify its prices if its profits exceeded sl.sm. The department did not think the company concerned made such a profit.
The officer said the best protection a customer had was his own self. He had the money in his pocket, and did not need to surren-
der it to a shopkeeper until he was satisfied he was getting value for the money. People could always “shop around” and decline to buy specialty items of high price.
