Directive to player
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. The Counties back-row forward, Brett Shirkey, has been forbidden to play further matches for the Manurewa Rugby club now touring Australia if he has signed to play Rugby league. The directive came from the secretary of the New Zealand Rugby Union (Mr J. E. Jeffs). Mr Jeffs emphasised that the directive applied only if Shirkey had already signed to play for the Glenora Rugby League Club. He said Shirkey would infringe the International Rugby Board’s rules on amateurism if he continued to play Rugby union after signing with a’Rugby league club. j
