Sub-unions life member
Mr F. J. Shadbolt, a former chairman of the Canterbury Rugby Subunions executive, was elected a life member at its annual meeting yesterday.
Delegates from the three sub-unions and the retiring president, Mr R. J. M. Millar, spoke of the great amount of work done by Mr Shadbolt for country Rugby, and his election was unanimous.
Because the annual Town I v. Country match on I Queen’s Birthday Monday! was scheduled to be played| two days after the Canter-
bury and Scotland match on May 31, delegates debated a proposal to change the Country day date. However, the meeting decided that it was preferable to keep the date, and a suggestion that the venue be changed from Lancaster Park to Rangiora was also rejected. Although the sub-unions: made a profit of 5209 fori last season, Mr M. R. Barn-; ett said that the Canterbury' union grant of Sl5OO might! not be sufficient for much' I longer. “Each sub-union re-! icieves only 5150, and we I must keep our finances sound especially with another tour looming."
i The meeting supported the > continuation of the insurance scheme run by the Canterbury union. The following selectors . named by the Junior Advis- . ory Board were approved: . Under 18,. Messrs G. Twose ■ and I. Chapman; under 16, Messrs J. Loffhagen and J. Lyall; under 13, Messrs D. JMcGiffert and R. McAllister. ! J Mr Millar, after two years' Jas chairman, did not seek! J re-election and his successor is Mr H. D. Bayliss. J Other officers elected were: vice-chairman, Mr N. Mclntosh; : secretary-treasurer, Mr K. C. Tay- ! lor; Canterbury R.F.U. delegates, • Messrs M. R. Barnett and R. J. M. Millar; referees appointment committee. Messrs Bayliss, Millar, and Mclntosh.
