Bloody win to Bugner
(N.Z.P A.-Reuter—Copyright)
BOLOGNA (Italy).
Joe Bugner, of Britain, successfully defended his European heavy-weight crown against the Italian boxer, Dante Cane, in Bologna in a scrappy and bloody match which a doctor stopped at the end of the fourth round.
By that time both men were covered in blood from a huge gash above Cane’s left eye which Bugner opened with a hook in the second round.
A doctor stopped a bitterlydisappointed Cane from coming out for the fifth. The 8000 crowd showered the ring angrily with coins and missiles. There were scuffles as Bugner and his manager, Andy Smith, left for the dressing roms.
