Extradition sought
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, March 3.
A Melbourne detective has arrived in Auckland to seek the extradition of James Daniel Colrain, who escaped from an Australian gaol two years ago.
Colrain, aged 32, was arrested on a vagrancy charge last week by Auckland’s regional crime squad. Senior Detective P. Higgins, of Melbourne, has since charged Colrain with escaping from the Pentridge gaol in February 1973. Colrain was serving a fiveyear term for robbery when he fled from Pentridge. The Melbourne police said it was his third escape from Victorian gaols. The hearing of extradition proceedings is expected to begin on Wednesday at the Auckland Magistrate’s Court.
