UPSET IN BOWLS
Mrs J. Avery (Hawarden) caused an upset when play began at Rangiora yesterday in the Christchurch Women’s Bowling Centre’s champion-of-champions fours.
Mrs Averv beat the wellperformed Shirley skip, Mrs E. Steele, 23-22, after an extra end. Another notable result was the 21-15 defeat suffered by the national fours champion, Mrs A. Whiting (Woolston W.M.C.). She was beaten by Mrs J. Black (Linwood).
The two rounds yesterdav reduced the field from 34 teams to 16, and there will be four remaining tonight after two rounds today at Morrison Avenue.
The skips besides Me* dames Avery and Black still in contention are: J. Papps (Mount Pleasant), P. Palmer (St Martins), J. Boote (Beckenham). L. Carson (Woolston), D. Taylor (Rakaia).
