Public interest

The public are the shareholders in one of the city’s largest enterprises, the University of Canterbury', and as construction has proceeded on the new buildings at 11am over the last few years thousands of visitors have been shown over the site. The Information Officer (Mr E. T. Beardsley) said numerous organisations had been shown over the university in conducted tours and now that building was almost completed many more visitors were expected. Visitors, even those who lived nearby, were invariably impressed by the extent of the buildings and the scope of the university’s work. Most had come from Christchurch, but groups from all over Canterbury and farther afield had also inspected the campus, he said. There had been a growing interest among schools, especially high schools, and all high schools in the University district had been invited this year to send their senior forms to Ham.
