Potential for the future
The University of Canterbury is now all located oh the one site again, presenting as it does an imposing campus arrangement. I have always been very proud of the work of this university, and the very fine young people who have graduated through this institution. On the new site, there is potential for the future, so many other New Zealand youngsters can have the opportunity of availing themselves of the educational opportunity provided here. I am pleased to have this opportunity to associate myself with the University of Canterbury’s shift to the new Ham site. It has been a massive task, and one which has been completed with the minimum of fuss, and this, in itself, is a tribute to those people involved. Universities, along with teachers colleges, and
technical institutes provide a three-pronged attack on the continuing education sector. Shortly a fourth opportunity will be provided in the form of the community college, so that the necessary range of continuing education facilities will be met. Universities will continue to play a very major role in the continuing education. Their value is unquestioned, and I am pledged to providing increased university expansion at a pace in keeping with the demand from the young people of this country. My very best wishes go to the University of Canterbury and its staff and students. Congratulations on a job well done, and best wishes for the job ini the future. P. A. AMOS, Minister of Education.
