Summer time
Sir, —So we have- finished summer time long (we hope) before summer is finished. Until recently I lived in the British Isles where there was an experiment for somj years of having "summer” —or an hour ahead of the clock time all the year round. This meant that in Scotland we were in darkness until nine, in the far north until nearly 10. Eventually so many of us protested, in the newspapers and otherwise, that a return was made to Greenwich Mean Time. But for a very limited time, “summer time” being returned to when summer was as far away as winter is from us here and now. I learnt that summer time has come to the United States a week before Canada. A nice muddle that will make on the border. I am all for summer time—all summer—and standard time — all winter.— Yours, etc., PUZZLED IN TIME. February 24, 1975.
