Expedition grant of $10,000
The Government has granted $lO,OOO to the team of climbers who will attempt Mount Jannu on the 1975 New Zealand Himalayan expedition.
The grant has come through the Minister of ; Recreation and Sport (Mr Walding) and is a considerable contribution towards the expedition target of 1 $BO,OOO. The; leader of the ex-j, peditipn, Mr P. V. Farrell, j said (hat the team members had tfeen on tenterhooks over:the *st few weeks waiting' for fin announcement from , the Minister. “We have about $3OOO of;’ bills at the moment and wei! were starting to get a little; worried.” Mr Farrell said. 11
I The money granted would ■!be used to pay for equipment ordered some time ago but which is now arriving. iThe first order to be air; ' freighted to Christchurch' from Australia arrived ini ! Christchurch yesterday. Money had already been promised for film rights but as yet had not been advanced, said Mr Farrell. The first part of $15,000 'promised should come in May, and the balance in -July. The expedition now had ’about half the money it required. It had $2OOO for book rights, and $2500 from the New Zealand Alpine Club. On top of this, there 'had been substantial personal contributions, said Mr ! Farrell.
