Cheese sale to Egypt
(N Z Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 24. The Dairy Board has made its first sale of cheese to Egypt. The board announced today that a shipment of 540 tonnes was being loaded at New Plymouth in the Tonichi Maru. The freighter has been brought from Australia to load cheese, and she will discharge at Suez. The shipment is worth at least $500,000. The board’s general man-
lager (Mr S. T. Murphy) said 1 that a senior technical officer from the board had been stationed in the Middle East for the last three months. “Egypt is one of a number of Middle East countries which hold promise as markets. The people are traditionally consumers of milk, cheese and other dairy products. “Their standard of living is rising and they’re buying more.” Mr Murphy said that the shipment sold to Egypt would be used by a Governmmt plant in the manufacture of processed cheese.
