Backwards run hands
(By

“You may ask me for anything except time,” said Napoleon to one of his officers. He obviously had not heard of daylight saving, Summer Time, Sidey time, or whatever you want to call this messing about with clocks that has been going on al! summer. If you are up at 3 a.m. tomorrow you can take the pleasure of an extra hour without even asking for it. On Sunday at 3 a.m. clocks will be put back one hour to 2 a.m., taking us back to the good old Standard Time and that extra hour in bed in the morning. From then, it’s back to the 8.8. C. at 8 a.m. for the news and the latenight London bulletin at 11 p.m., not midnight—so that you can also look forward to an extra hour in bed at night. You can’t lose. If you are catching a train from Sunday on, just ignore the time change and turn up to the station as if no-one had taken it into their heads to anticipate every child’s plan of putting the clocks forward for Christmas morning.
If you are flying overseas, then your tickets should have been written with corrected times on them. The morning flight to Sydney that used to depart at 9 a.m. will now depart at 8 a.m. Arrival time in Sydney will still be 10.05 a.m. since the Australians do not change back to their standard time until March 1.
If you were one of those who dug up their sun-dials in the early hours of November 3 to give them a 30deg. anti-clockwise turn, you can look forward to a little more digging on Sunday morning to put them back where they ought to be. But remember to check your sun-dial before you go to church, or you might be an hour early.
