Seamen out of work
Twenty four registered seamen were seeking, work at Lyttelton yesterday morning, and some of them have been out of work for three weeks, according to the South Island secretary of the Seamen’s Union (Mr T. Stuart). Action would have to be taken next week. Mr Stuart said. Two vessels are laid up at Lyttelton. They are the ! Holmdale, normally a Chathams trader, and the Ngapara, which trades mainly to Australia. However a spokesman for the Union Steam Ship Company said that the Holmdale would be recommissioned on Tuesday, and would probably sail for the Chathams with cargo i about Wednesday. I
