Pump cause of crash
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 21. A wrongly assembled oil r>ump caused the crash of a Royal New Zealand Air Force Skyhawk near Ohakea last October, an inquiry has found. The pump caused engine failure, and because the Skyjhawk was flying at circuit iheight the pilot was unable ito make a forced landing on I the airfield. I The Air Force has told the manufacturer of the aircraft, 'the McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft Corporation, that there is a design fault in the pump. The Minister of Defence (Mr Fraser) has authorised the Air Force to seek a replacement Skyhawk from the manuafcturer, or the United States Navy, the main user of the aircraft.
