Increase in power cost
i Electricity tariffs in the I Central Canterbury Electric ; Power Board’s district will ! be increased up to 5 per cent [from April 1, the board decided on Wednesday. The chairman (Mr L. F. Chamberlain) said that by this time next year the board would be faced with a large increase in the price of electricity, and “if the price to consumers is increased by 5 per cent now it will soften the blow next year.” Mr R. A. Greenfield wanted the increase to apply [to all rates, except for some [commercial and industrial ' rates, which he said were I disproportionately higher than those in other parts of New Zealand. The board decided that all the rates should be increased, and that a report on tariffs should be prepared for a later meeting.
