Spargo surprise entry
One of New Zealand’s most prominent threequarter midget car drivers in recent seasons, Graham Spargo (Hawke’s Bay), is a surprise entry for the final three rounds of the South Island championship at the Templeton Speedway tonight.
Two other Hawke’s Bay drivers, Steve Todd and Dave Alexander, have also entered.
However, the man to beat will almost certainly be Alan Palmer (Christchurch), who is the defending champion. He has been in superb form this season in his American-designed racer and is determined to improve on his indifferent showing in the first three championship races at Invercargill earlier this season.
The two leaders on points are the New Zealand champion, Rex Burt (Southbridge), and Norrie Chandler (Christchurch). Both have 44.
Other scorers are (all drivers from Templeton unless otherwise stated): M. Williams 42. G. Parr 40, G. Stone 40. Palmer 30, W. Denovan 28, D. Williams (Invercargill) 20. .
