Queensland travel promotion
Queensland sunshine is better and brighter than any other kind—or so the Queensland Travel Mission would have one believe.
— The mission, led by the Queensland Minister for Sport (Mr J. Herbert) is almost half-way through a 12day promotional tour of New Zealand “selling” sunshine. The mission entertained representatives of the travel and advertising industries and the news media at a Christchurch hotel last evening.
The feature of the evening was a five-screen audio-visual presentation of the “Sunshine State,” a sophisticated production with excellent photography, some of which would have done credit to a wild-life documentary. It also showed a side of Queensland the tourist does not think of—the deep dense forests, and the early gracious homes of the pioneers. Mr Herbert said it was not the mission’s intention to overwhelm with statistics and costings and “things of that nature,” neither was the visit designed ot capture business for the Queensland Government Tourist Bureau.
“We simply aim to put you in the frame of mind to recommend Queensland to your clients as a holiday desination”; he said.
New Zealand provided a high proportion of the overseas tourist trade in Queensland, and was easily the biggest customer. Figures showed that 70 per cent of New Zealanders who went overseas last year visited some part of Australia, and the mission wanted a larger share' of these to visit Queensland, Mr Herbert said.
