Cost of Games

Sir, —In your issue of February 13, a letter by H. Bennett was of much interest and I fully support all his comments. The suggestion that a regular lottery be held to help finance the Queen Elizabeth II Park complex is an excellent one and worthy of consideration. Now Mr Hay suggests a further petrol tax and says he doubts if it would worry anyone unduly. Obviously Mr Hay has no conception of the financial strain today on citizens retired on small fixed incomes. For many of these their car is one of their few pleasures, as well as being helpful trans, port. Further expense in petrol tax could cause possible hardship. A citizens’ tax covering everybody is the only fair solution as the park complex is for the young and they should share the burden. —Yours, etc., FIXED INCOME RATEPAYER. February 20, 1975.
