Record swim ruled out

(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) BRISBANE. A world record was rejected yesterday by the Australian Swimming Union because the man who set it, Stephen Holland, admitted he was paced by another swimmer. Holland clipped o.7sec off his own world 800 m mark of Bmin Is.9sec five weeks ago. But it was ruled that Holland was paced, and this had been admitted by Holland himself, his coach, Mr L. Lawrence, and the pace-maker, Graham White, a former Olympic swimmer. However, the issue proved little more than academic. Two weeks later, in the New Zealand Games at Christchurch, Holland established a new 800 m time of Bmin 15sec on the way to a world 1500 m record.
