Sellers force B.H.P. price down

Closer analysis of B.H.P.’s interim result prompted sellers to move back into the stock in late trading- on Australian exchanges yesterday.

The shares rose from 650 c, to 656 c before slipping back j to 642 c, 4c lower on the day.: B.N.S.W. fell 4c to 580 c, as did C.B.C. The C.B.A. was I down 15c to 250 c. I.A.C. and A.G.C. both' eased but property stocks and most retailers were firm. Macquarie Broadcasting j slumped 15c after news of aj 48 per cent decline in earnings and the omission of an interim dividend, but Bradken jumped 32c to 210 c in < response to the Comeng take-over offer. Most established mining: issues traded firmer, but' rises were generally small,: and gold stocks were in de-i mand throughout the day| after another rise in the bullion price.
