Widening of Waimairi Rd
The National Roads Board cannot pay for all the work needed to widen Waimairi Road when its junction with Riccarton Road and Hansons Lane is realigned.
This was made clear in a letter from the Minister of: Works (Mr Watt), received' by the Waimairi County Council last evening. It dispelled the council’s hopes that the board would pay for. widening Waimairi Road. The Minister said that the would pay for the Hansons Lane work. Hansons Lane and Waimairi Road would no longer serve as a ring road when the Curletts Road-Peer Street link was established with the southern motorway, and the board, in view of its financial prob-: ■ lems, could not commit itself to carry out work on Waimairi Road near Riccar- ' ton Road.
