Private hospital subsidy

Sir, — In our hearts we know it is wrong that anyone in this country should pay ransom to insurance companies for fear of illness, or to private hospitals for being ill. Basic human needs should never be turned to shareholders’ profits. Economically I can not see how it is cheaper to support insurance companies and private hospitals than to pay taxes for public health. But intellectually, of course, one could find all sorts of arguments otherwise. — Yours, etc., AUNTY. February 18, 1975.
