Centralisation ' just not on'

Fuel to the controversy regarding the centralisation of racing clubs in the South Island was added by Mr I. Quigley, member of Parliament for Otago Central, when presenting trophies at the Vincent Jockey Club’s meeting at Omakau yesterday. Mr Quigley said that the centralisation of racing clubs in Central Otago and the South Island was “'just not on.” These meetings were the social event of the year in their respective districts. , , . After talking with racing administrators, owners and trainers.; and members of the racing industry. and above all the rank and file ■ who made these meetings. Mr Quigley said that it was essential that the question of; taxation, especially in the smaller clubs like Vincent. Kurow and Cromwell, should be reduced and that these clubs should get a greater share of the State subSlC ßut, added Mr Quigley, the clubs would have to make representation to the members of Parliament in their respective areas to bring the matter before the Government.
