Early buying of tickets urged

A plea to people to buy their tickets now for the New Zealand Games and not wait until the actual day, was made last evening by the games organising committee’s publicity chairman (Mr J. Guy). Mr Guy told the meeting of the committee before the games that one of the most practical reasons for people to buy now was to avoid congestion at the ticket offices at Queen Elizabeth II Park. Other reasons, he said, were that people could obtain the type of seats they wanted and that they would avoid the disappointment of deciding to attend a particular session and finding it sold out.

The tickets chairman (Mr J. E. Davies) reported that tickets to the value of $81,300 had been sold and, he said, his committee was confident of reaching its pre-sell target of $120,000.

Mr Davies said that the tickets office in the Bank of New Zealand building would be open for business this Saturday. The finance chairman (Mr N. R. Searell) reported that most of the problems associated with travel costs had been overcome and he expected that the figure of $265,000 budgeted for travel would be about met. He gave a detailed account to the meeting of the insurance cover taken out for the games, which in respect to public liability at Queen

Elizabeth II Park totals s2m and at the Ham village a maximum indemnity of s2m. However, one cover the finance committee has decided to do without is against rain. Mr Searell said the highest daily figure which could be obtained was $40,000 ] and for this five points would [have to fall between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. PREMIUM The premium for coverage of the four days of the tames would have been 4000, and it was decided to take the risk, said Mr Searell. He noted that items of expenditure and income were generally in line with budget and that the financial outcome of the games now depended entirely on ticket sales.
