Lakes park handbook
The third edition of the Nelson Lakes National Park handbook has been published in revised form. The park is one of the smaller of New Zealand’s national parks, but, as the handbook shows, it is full of interest. The park derives its name from the two main lakes within its boundary — Rotoiti and Rotoroa. Apart from the lakes, the main features are the mountains, one of which. Mount Robert, has a ski-field. The handbook outlines the history and development of the area, and describes the sports and recreation available. It also has chapters on the climate, geology, botany, and zoology. There are 10 colour and 10 black and white photographs. Also just published by the park board is a small booklet. “The St Arnaud Range Nature Walk,” which describes much of the flora that can be seen on a track from the eastern side of Lake Rotoiti to above the bushline on the St Arnaud Range,
