Otago players lead cricket awards

The Otago captain Glenn Turner, and a former Otago skipper. Gren Alabaster, now lead in the race for the $2OO Shell awards for fastest century and most wickets in a I’lunkel Shield match.
Turner’s second century in the match against Central Districts at Carisbrook came up in 141 minutes —25 minutes fastest than the previous best, by Geoff Howarth (Northern Districts).
Alabaster regained his place as the best bowler, with match figures of 10 for 210 against Central. He overtook Bruce Smith (Wellington), who had nine for 128 against Otago. Smith, however, still leads with the best return for a bowler in an innings—six for 57 against Otago.
A bowler has taken over the lead for one of the batting awards. The Central Districts paceman, Lance Cairns, chasing runs against Otago, brought up his 50 in 36 minutes, eclipsing the previous best by Jim Riley (Auckland) by 13 minutes.
The fastest 50 award is worth $lOO.
, Ken Wadsworth (Canteribury), with five catches still •leads in the wicket-keepers’ (award, and Philip Barton Districts), with I four catches in one innings, |is leading in the fielding. Only one Plunket Shield match—Wellington v. Central Districts —remains.
