Record- breaking Glenn Turner

Glenn Turner, destined to break cricket records, added an important one to his list yesterday. In making 186 not out tor Otago against Central Districts — a second century in a match tor the second time this season — he took his shield agregate for the series to 703. This left behind Bert Sutcliffe’s tally of 683 in the 1952-1953 season. Turner made his aggregate from nine innings, Sutclifle from seven, but Sutclifle scored more than half his runs in a single innings. Sutcliffe’s scores were 385 against Canterbury, 59

and 6 against Auckland, 88 and 46 against Wellington, 37 ;>.nd 62 against Central Districts. He averaged 97.6. Turner made 17 and 7 against Canterbury, 135 and 108 against Northern Districts, 48 and 2 in the Auckland match. 9 and 86 against Wellington. 105 and 186 not out e.oainst Central. His average was 78.1. Turner needs 265 more runs to catch G. T. Dowling’s 968, which in 1967-1968 set a New Zealand record for a season. He has the trial match at New Plymouth and two tests with England in which to make the runs.
