Sprint title to Broad
t.V.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL.
Fighting against temperatures in the high 20s and against tired muscles from a week’s competition in the Kew Bowl cycling carnival, riders in the South Island championships, held at Invercargill yesterday, performed well in front of a small crowd. Brian Broad took the first of the three races to decide •he winner in the open sprint event but in the second he had trouble approaching the last 100 metres. He moved inside Frank Collins (Otago) and there appeared to be some jostling; a few yards further on Broad went down and an appeal was made. The referee ruled a re-run but Otago appealed against the
I decision and a meeting was called to decide. A re-run was ordered. Broad took the re-run when he stuck to the outside of Collins. Results:—
