Reporting of accidents
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 10.
Motorists involved in accidents no longer have to report them to the police — they must now report them to their nearest Ministry of Transport office, or traffic officer. If they cannot reach either, they should then go to the police.
From January 1, under new legislation, the police will attend only fatal accidents. Injury accidents will be attended by traffic officers. This new legislation is imposing extra work on the Ministry of Transport and local authorities running their own traffi department.
