Charge rise deferred
(“The Press" Special Service) BLENHEIM.
Nassella tussock grubbing charges will not rise next year. The Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries (Mr Moyle) has said any increase will be deferred until January 1, 1976. The decision comes after a deputation to the Minister on Tuesday by the chairman (Mr A. D. Dick) and the secretary (Mr E. J. Batty) of the Marlborough Nassella Tussock Board and the chairman (Mr F. K. Forrester) and secretary (Mr A. J. McKendry), of the North Canterbury Nassella Tussock Board. Also in attendance were the chairman of the inter-departmental committee on nassella control (Mr D. G. Renolds), and Mr B. Shallard. Mr Moyle said the deferment was because of the misunderstanding between the Government, the interdepartmental committee and the two boards, as well as the current economic situation in the fanning sector, and the late notification of the proposed increase to the boards. The proposed increase in grubbing charges was to have been 25 per cent, which the boards submitted would make some properties uneconomic.
