Wanganui skier wins S.I. title
A Wanganui water skier, T. Fowler, narrowly won the open men’s slalom in the South Island open and handicap tournament at Lakeside, Lake Ellesmere, at the weekend.
Miss J. Caimey (Christchurch) won the women’s event for the fourth time in succession, finishing an amazing 8| points clear of the second place-getter. All skiers were troubled by a very bad chop and only one round of the scheduled two was able to be run on Saturday; the first two skiers in the second round both fell off before the first buoy. Points were lower than usual because of the chop and the course had to be shifted to a more sheltered back bay yesterday. Results:— Men’s open.—T. Fowler, 1231 points. 1; M. Hardy (Wanganui), 121, 2; P. Morris (Ellesmere), 116, 3; B. Fowler (Wanganui), 99. 4.
