More calls to police
The police say there has been an increase in telephone calls to them since the “Speak Up” campaign began in Christchurch on November 2.
About 63 callers had reported suspicious occurrences to the operations room by yesterday, and 20 more had spoken to crime prevention officers.
A woman telephoned the police on Wednesday when she saw a man interfering with swimmers’ clothing on New Brighton beach. About $3 was stolen from a wallet. The police later apprehended a man.
