Journalism award
The first annual journalism prize awarded by the New Zealand division of the Chartered Institute of Transport has been won by Mr B. A. Simpson, the Nelson representative of “The Press.” The award, which comprises a cheque for $2OO and a scroll, is aimed at encouraging excellence in transport reporting in New Zealand. Mr Simpson received his award on Thursday at the annual conference of the division in Auckland. Mr Simpson’s prizewinning article dealt in detail with the problems of interisland movement of trade cars by rail ferry in the face of industrial restrictions. Mr Simpson was a member of the Canterbury Rugby team which won the Ranfurly Shield from Otago in 1950. The institute is the professional body for those engaged in transport and physical distribution, and was founded in 1919. Its prime object is to "promote, encourage and co-ordinate the study and advancement of the science and art of transport in all its branches.”
