Television licence rebate
Sir, — Your correspondent who complains about the reduction in television licence fees for age beneficiaries is not so shrewd as the Government. The latter knows how much Scotch blood flows in the veins of New Zealanders, and no doubt it reasoned that those pensioners who have so far held out against having television will certainly acquire one now, otherwise bang goes sixteen dollars. The Government and the business community are to be congratulated on having dreamed up this idea of how to get blood out of a stone, and we have nothing to fear in the economic field all the while the country is run by such men of genius. — Yours I etc., SASSENACH. November 14, 1974.
