Sustained buying in Australia
Share prices closed on their highest levels this week, under sustained buying support on Australian markets yesterday. Gold and uranium stocks featured among the miners, while banks led the industrial upsurge.
The rise in the London gold bullion price pushed Emperor 20c to 200 c while G.M.K. picked up 12c at 150 c. Peko-Wallsend rose 30c to 290 c, but Pancontinental gave way under quick profit, taking, and closed 6c lower at 172 c. Queensland Mines rose 5c to 130 c. Bougainville, M.1.M., Hamersley, Metals Ex, and C.R.A. were higher and North B H. rose 2c at 122 c. Oil issues also moved I ahead. B.H.P. rose 8c to 534 c but B. gained 15c at 405 c and the C.B.A. 10c at 178 c. The national gained 16c at 198 c. T.N.T., Lend Lease, Myers, Carpenters, and Burns Philp were other good performers.
