Situation: A shallow depression is moving east over the North Island; a cool southerly flow is spreading over New Zealand as a ridge of high pressure over the Tasman Sea advances over the South Island. Forecast: Canterbury: Moderate to fresh southerlies; cloudy and cold; scattered rain but clearing from the south during the day.
Marlborough Sounds, Kaikoura Coast: Moderate to fresh southerlies; rain but fair intervals increasing. Central Marlborough, Nelson: Moderate southerlies predominating: showers at first but clearing slowly; cool. Buller. Westland: Moderate I south - easterlies predominating; showers at first but becoming fine, moderate afternoon temperatures. Outlook: Fine.
