Show entry well up
Entries at the Northern Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s show in Rangiora at Labour Day Week-end are a record for a normal show. The largest show was the centennial — in 1966 — and there were 3950 entries. This year, the figure of 3646 (without flower entries, which have not yet closed) would suggest that a record could be set next year if the trend continues. Last year there were 3426 entries. There have been increases in the horse, cattle, pig and dog, but decreases in the sheep and sundries sections. Pigs have shown the greatest increase, from 28 last year to 62 this year. Entries in the various classes, with those for last year’s show, in parenthesis.— Horses, 1845 (1519); cattle, 322 (301); sheep, 367 (438); pigs and dogs, 148 (122); sundries, 964 (1046). Total, 3646
