Film festival awards

A film by a Christchurch woman did the best of the 10 New Zealand entries in the 1974 Christchurch International Amateur Film Festival.

Miss J. M. Inglis’s “Gold Diggers” came third in the documentary section of the festival and also won a special award for being the best film on a New Zealand subject produced by a New Zealander. There were 37 entries in the competition, from the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Singapore, Malta. Italy, and Portugal, as well as New Zealand. Other special awards for New Zealand entrants were for the best 16mm film, won by Mr M. Jackson (Invercargill) with “The Speleologists.” and for the best! kmm film, won by Mr J. S. Reynolds (Auckland) with “The Good, the Bad and the Unlikely.” “Gold Diggers” and “The Speleologists” also received awards of merit in the main competition. The ten best films were all by overseas producers. The Hei Tiki Trophy was won by Mr F. C.
