First blood to Reardon I /A'.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. I The world professional snooker champion, R Reardon. I got away to a flying start in his contest with the world open champion, E. Charlton, when he took the honours, five frames 'to two last night. The contest, to be played over 273 frames at more than 30 venues throughout New Zealand, opened at the Manurewa Cosmopolitan Club and drew a crowd of nearly 400. Hundreds were turned away. , r Reardon lost the first franc, 15-79, but from then on Charlton , hardly had a look in, A highlight was a delightful , break of 66 by Reardon, in the third frame He scored consis- ' tentlv, and in each succeeding frame lie had breaks of more ■ than 30. Charlton’s best break was 48 in the fifth frame. Reardon wound up the session rin tvpicaliy dashing style. 2O-41. he cleared the Stable with a break of 39. I Reardon won the match, 15-79, 61-35, 86-28. 39-64, 68-60, 57-50, 59-41. The session today will be Splayed at Whangamata.
