Power lines at Prebbleton
Sir, —After three years of inertia, it suddenly becomes important to install the controversial line by February. Surely, before proceeding, it would be appropriate to reexamine the need in light of developments in the area. N.Z.E.D. thinking has been based on Islington as being important to the control of the northern part of the South Island’s electric system. While this view is held it will be important to take power into Islington and out again — to North Canterbury, Christchurch, Bromley, Central Canterbury, and, soon, to Rolleston city. Will not the rapid initial growth of this new city exceed that of more developed areas? Will not Rolleston demand more power lines back from Islington in the next 25 years?—Yours, etc., P.R. October 12, 1974.
