Traffic officers’ earnings

Sir, —Bad driving and accidents, of which only about 2 per cent are not preventable, continue, yet we read that the powers that be are lowerling the earnings of our trafIfic officers. When other quart[ers have a reduction of hours, (particularly the hard-core

e unions, their wages do not o drop because fewer hours are 1 worked. Yet these real works ers, responsible for keeping drivers from killing or maiming through their driving, are penalised because they want more civilised hours. Watersiders’, freezing workers’ and drivers’ unions, do not have this responsibility. Look at their wages. Let us pay the traffic officers a proper wage,

because their job concerns thousands of people, both offensive and defensive, and should be recognised by decent wages and hours. — Yours, etc., DEFENSIVE DRIVER. October 12, 1974.
