PLUNKET TO AID PLANNING
(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, Oct. 13. A remit proposing that literature on family planning should be on display in Plunket rooms to help mothers needing an introduction to various forms of contraception was carried at the conference of the Plunket Society. It was put forward by the Auckland branch. Another remit asking the society to extend its services to include provision of advice on contraception was lost. It had been presented [by the New Plymouth ibranch.
The society’s director of ■ medical services (Dr N. C. 'Begg), said that although nurses did have training on contraception ’methods, the family doctor was the right source for the mother to seek advice on contraception. A remit from the Auckland branch proposing that the society be responsible in an advisory capacity for organising the teaching ,of family-life education ’in schools was carried.
As a result of a remit put forward by the Hunterville sub-branch the society will urge the Minister of Social Welfare (Mr King) to strengthen the enforcement of the Child Welfare Act, by ensuring that enough childwelfare officers are available to investigate cases of neglect, mistreatment, and ■ lack of control.
