Society file still missing
The Incorporated Societies Office is mytsifled about the disappearance of the file of the Christchurch Civic Orchestra Foundation. The file was last seen in 1971 and there is no record of it. The assistant registrar of incorporated societies (Mr L. A. Saunders) said yesterday that the last recorded document registered against the file was in 1971.
That document was the annual financial statement for the year ending December, 1970. No statements had been recorded since then. Mr Saunders said there were about 1500 files of incorporated societies held at the office but the one in question was the only one missing as far as he knew. In the Companies Office there were 12,000 files and only one of those was missing. He said people were required to sign a chit when they searched files but that might not have been necessary in 1971 — when the orchestra’s file disappeared. He said incorporated societies were required to file financial statements every year but some were not very punctual.
