Boroughs controlled by Independents
The sitting Mayor, Mr J. B. Collett (Independent) had an easy win over his Labour opponent, Mr G. C. Adams, in the Lyttelton Borough Council election.
* Mr Collett has been I Mayor for the last 15 * e; years. Mr Adams, a j for 12 years, c did not seek re-election j to the council. J Labour suffered an eclipse 1 in the council election, six c . of the eight seats being 1 J taken by Independent candi- c dates, with a sitting mem- f ber, Mr R. H. Duff, topping 1 the poll. Longley and J. B. Midgleyi are Messrs A. W. Taylor, a coal merchant, and Mr G. R. Marriner, a senior traffic! officer. Cr D. A.
