Young man made C.W.S. manager
Mr G. Trower has been appointed general manager for New Zealand of the United Kingdom-based Co-operative Wholesale Society. He is 35.
He will be one of the youngest men in a major position of responsibility in the New Zealand meat industry.
As general manager of the society’s New Zealand operations and chairman of the Ocean Beach Freezing Company, of Invercargill, a subsidiary, Mr Trower will be responsible for the Ocean Beach and Longbum freezing works and the society's head office in Wellington. Mr Trower succeeds Mr M. Waller, who has retired after 25 years with the society in New Zealand and overseas. Mr W. E. Kirk will succeed Mr Trower as manager at the Ocean Beach works and Mr L. S. Chalk will
become manager at Longburn in succession to Mr T. Hastie who has retired for health reasons after nearly 24 years in the position. The deputy chief executive officer of the society in Britain, Mr D. Landau, who was recently in New Zealand, says that both of the society’s New Zealand works are being modernised and restructed at a cost of many millions of dollars.
