MR CRADDOCK HONOURED
The South was convincingly beaten in the recent annual inter-island Rugby match at Auckland, but it was a South Islander who held centre stage at the after-match function. The opportunity was taken to present Mr W. A. Craddock, of Westport, with his badge as a life member of the New Zealand Rugby Union. Mr Craddock, who has
been a member of the Buller union for almost 50 years, retired this year after 30 years as a councillor of the New Zealand union. By courtesy of N.A.C., Mr Craddock’s four sons were 'flown to Auckland to attend the presentation, which was made by the national president, Mr C. K. Saxton.
Mr Craddock is the twenty-fourth administrator to be made a life member of the New Zealand union, the others still living being Messrs J. H. Parker, T. H. Pearce, J. N. Millard and T. C. Morrison. Mr Craddock is a pastpresident of the New Zealand union and the only man to have gone back on to the
council after filling this office. He managed the 1957 All Black side in Australia and took New Zealand Maori sides to Fiji. However, he is probably best known for his work as the union’s liaison officer with overseas sides in New Zealand. He filled the role many times and his generosity as a host is legendary.
