Transfer of authority

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) BUENOS AIRES. The Archbishop of Canterbury (Dr Michael Ramsey) has formally relinquished his direct control over the Anglican Church in Latin America. He handed letters transferring authority to appoint bishops and priests to a new organisation, the Council of Anglicans in South America, in a ceremony after a service of thanksgiving in the Anglican Cathedral in Buenos Aires. Accompanied by his wife, the Archbishop, was on on the last day of a five-day visit to Argentina, the third leg of a Latin American tour. Today he will fly to Brazil, having previusly visited Colombia and Chile. Earlier he had celebrated Communion in an Anglican parish church in the suburb of Martinez, recalling in a short address that yesterday was the twenty-second anniversary of his consecretion as a bishop in York Minster.
