Prizes were presented yesterday to winners in the “Make an Apron’’ competition at the Canterbury Building Centre. First prize, a Brother automatic sewing machine, was won by Mrs Margo Southon (above), from the Burwood Young Wives Group. Miss N. Strez, from the Hard of Hearing League, won second prize, and Mrs D. Handiside, also from the Burwood Young Wives, won third prize.
The competition was held by Brother Distributors, Ltd, and the Building Centre last week. Women’s club members and organisations have been competing for individual and best group prizes. The best group prize, of $5O from the Building Centre, was won by the Hard of Hearing League. The aprons, which were judged on standards of neatness and imaginative design by Miss Doreen McDonald, the . South Island manager of Brother Distributors, Ltd, will be on display at the Building Centre until the end of this week. They will then go to the Aged Peoples Welfare Council as Christmas presents for old people. High school girls will be included in the competition next year.
